Hesburgh Library Lower Level

Notre Dame, Indiana

Service desk and computer area in University of Notre Dame, Hesburgh Library Lower Level

The Hesburgh Library opened its doors in 1963 and serves as the University’s main library. Prior to renovation, the basement was a dark maze of offices and storage spaces. The renovation established the spaces below grade as inviting and useful. A larger entrance to the basement from the first floor allows for more natural light while serving as an “entrance” to the lower level.
